Employability Skills has been
used by hundreds of agencies and schools throughout the United
States and Puerto Rico for more than twenty years. The one hundred
thirty-four(134) lessons
are designed to allow older youth
and adults with limited reading skills to develop the skills that
are critical to the process of selecting, obtaining, and maintaining
employment. The program's computer administered assessments identify
needs and evaluate training effectiveness. All record keeping and
reporting functions are computerized. High quality, colorful, and
meaningful graphics provoke interest, enhance attention to detail,
and aid in comprehension and retention of lesson content. This
program is divided into four modules and 16 topic sections:
- Career Decision
Making - consists of twenty-six (26) lessons
that teach students how to make career decisions by relating
job requirements
to their personal characteristics and priorities. Students develop
inventories of their own interests, aptitudes, and values while
exploring the process of making career choices. The lessons are
divided into three categories:
- Self-Assessment
- Information about Jobs
- Career Decisions
- Job Seeking Skills -
consists of twenty-five (25) lessons that teach students how
to conduct a job search, complete job applications,
write resumes and job search letters, perform appropriately in
job interviews, and follow-up after job interviews. Interactive
exercises prompt students through step-by-step processes that
result in neatly typed and formatted personal resumes and business
letters. The lessons are in 3 categories:
- Finding a Job
- Job Search Documents
- Interviewing for a Job
- Work Maturity
Skills - consists of forty-two (42) lessons
that teach students how to perform in a manner that will
help them
to be successful at work. Emphasis is placed on understanding
the employer's perspective on job performance in relation to
the world of work. Students learn how to: meet employers' expectations;
get along with supervisors, co-workers, and customers; increase
their value to their employers; and manage personal finances.

Effectiveness Skills - consists of 41 lessons
and covers the topics of Teamwork,
Leadership, Building Self-Esteem, Problem-Solving and Responsible
Behavior (including Nutrition, STD's, Drugs & Alcohol).
